UNSC 2021 – Rise of the Kurdish State

The date is May 20th, 2021. After a five year campaign led by a unified coalition of world superpowers, ISIS has been defeated. A mere 3 days after the US President declares the war on the militant jihadist group to be over, the Kurdish Regional Government, a quintessential actor in the coalition that has been growing in strength and expanding its borders since the beginning of the campaign, declares sovereignty and immediately wires a letter to the UN requesting membership. An emergency Security Council summit is called to debate what could become the most significant event faced by the international community this century.

WHO 911

It’s day three of debate in a six day WHO Summit on the application of The International Health Regulations in refugee camps. State representatives & pharmaceutical corporations are gathered to discuss vaccination, sanitization, access to care and zoonotic as well as communicable diseases. Debate seems to be going smoothly considering the complications presented by these issues. Application of potential programs created have been centralized around areas deemed at risk of break-outs. But little did the world, and its health care experts know, that we have been analyzing “at-risk” wrong all along. With an impending world wide “epic”demic, will this committee have the gumption to do what it takes to save the human race, or will we subcumb to our natural flaws and bear the burden of extinction.

Uncanny Warfare: The Law of War on the Cutting-Edge

War never changes; but the means by which it is fought is constantly evolving. Advances in technology have often created more powerful weapons that have left battlefields and cities littered with victims. In the constant battle to regulate and prevent the use of devastating and inhumane weapons, the laws of war have frequently been left playing catch-up. Now, advances in software and robotics has presented the world with two new emerging military technologies that could radically alter the vary concept of warfare: cyber weapons and ‘killer robots’. This SA styled legal committee will task delegates with working under the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons framework to regulate these emerging technologies and prevent the opening of a potential Pandora’s box.
