Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students take up the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country
You will compete both at Carleton in our in-house conferences held in late September and late January and will compete at our external conferences at other universities in North America. Those generally include, but are not limited to the National Collegiate Security Conference (NCSC), Queen’s University Model United Nations (QMUNI), McGill Model United Nations (McMUN), Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN), North American Model United Nations (NAMUN) and, the Canadian International Model United Nations (CANIMUN) conferences. Check out a list of our conferences here!
In the fall semester, training sessions will be held on the UN Society Discord around the middle of every month. Training sessions are not mandatory
For new members, training sessions are the best way to be introduced to Model UN. They are also a great way for all members to make new friends, and to build valuable skills in everything from research strategies to public speaking
Exact dates and times of training sessions will be posted in our members-only Facebook group ahead of time
In-house conferences are hosted by the Carleton UN Society exclusively for UN Society members. In-house conferences focus on training and skills-building, and are designed to help all members excel at external conferences. They are also less formal and intensive than many external conferences, and are a good way for new members to get involved in Model UN
External Conferences are hosted by other universities or non-governmental organizations, and many other universities attend them. Externals frequently offer a wider range of committees, and are often more competitive than our In-Houses. They also feature numerous social events that allow delegates to socialize with people from other universities
